Altair
Altair Meaning and Origin
Altair is a boy’s name of Arabic origin, meaning “bird.” It is derived from the Arabic word “al-ta’ir,” which means “the flying one.” The name is associated with the brightest star in the constellation Aquila (the Eagle) and is also known as Alpha Aquilae. Altair is one of the three stars that make up the “Summer Triangle,” a prominent asterism in the northern hemisphere summer sky. In various mythologies and cultures, Altair has been associated with different legends and stories. In ancient Arabian folklore, Altair is linked with the story of a prince named Qutuz and a princess named Sadir. They were separated by the Milky Way and were only allowed to meet once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month during the Chinese Qixi Festival.
