Damaris Meaning and Origin
The name Damaris is a girl’s name meaning “calf” and is of Greek origin. The name of a woman in the New Testament who was converted to Christianity by Saint Paul (Acts 17:34). It is most likely a Greek form of Damalis ‘calf’. Alternatively, it could be from the word damar meaning wife, or the verb of damar, damazo, meaning to overpower. Other sources site that it may be derived from the words damaios “horse-tamer”, or damasandra “subduer of men”.
