It lies at the narrowest point of the Øresund, the strait between Denmark and Sweden. Elsinore is most famous for being the location of Kronborg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kronborg Castle is known as “Elsinore Castle” in English and was made famous by William Shakespeare’s play “Hamlet.”
